RE: [MW:26330] RE: 26313] Hydro Test

Pressure test is a mandatory requirement of  pressure piping designed and fabricated according to B-31.1 code. Clause 137 & various other clauses  of this code explicitly specifies the requirements. The medium could be Hydro or Pneumatic.

Pneumatic test is  not advisable for safety and integrity of piping components. Hence Hydro test is the default choice.

Hope it clarifies your doubt.

Thanks.

Noted for your valuable point. But the contractor is asking to show the code requirements.

B31.1 has followed for design and fabrication of the Piping.

Usually pressure piping  have to be hydro tested (by default) as like pressure vessel. No exceptions to rules?

A citation from the appropriate code or mentioning the appropriate code would be appreciated.

The situation is that some of our process piping in refinery division THE CIRCUMFERENTIAL JOINT has come such position that the joint rests on the structural beam.
Is it allowed?

Some inspector have a concern that there is a developed stress while operation and the joint may fail.

[MW:26331] What is pipe ?

Dears,
I have an bug on EN 15614-1 regarding to pipe description. There is no description of pipe. When I machine below flange from plate, is it designated as pipe or not?

When I have an joint as below,My body material thickness is 50mm.
My customer requested pipe wpqr for this joint. But I think I can cover this joint with an 30mm Butt Weld WPQR.

What is your opinion?

Re: [MW:26329] Circumferential pipe weld joint resting on structural beam in process piping

Generally,  piping drawings shall take care of this type of issues during fabrication of pipe spools.

It is a very common problem, if you don't have any option to move the support,  then before the support cut and add one pup piece pipe and do all welding and NDT as per the  regulations  and avoid the fouling.

Re: [MW:26327] Which code states the distance between the weld .

Dear Anil,

You change the orientation or rotate the LSAW pipe (main pipe) if possible.

Otherwise get clarification or approval from your design engineering.

Once approved you can do
Welding.

Please note that after welding of branch pipe (with or without RF Pad), additional radiography of 150 mm (both sides) shall be taken on main pipe long seam weld to ensure the weld metal soundness.

The above radiography requirement is  more enough to satisfy the Client.
