If you want to use pipes, you can run the PQR using A333 Gr 6 and API 5L X65 pipes , both are P1G2 materials. Hope there is impact test requirements.
Dear Experts,

In our project, we have to establish a  WPS /PQR for A333 Gr 6 Pipe (P-1,Group-1) and Flanges A350 LF-2 (P-1,Group-2).   Process - GTAW+SMAW (with ER 70S-2 and E7018-1).

How to conduct/establish one combined PQT with P-1,Group-1 to P-1,Group-2 ??

Can we make two PQT separately of below options :-

One Pipe to Pipe in 6G position and other any Plate to Plate in 4G/3G position of which Tensile Strength 70 ksi) - Is it acceptable  as per ASME Sec-IX?

Please clarify.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Raja

You have not mentioned clearly in which dept u r working in fabrication, either in construction or QC..?

If u r working in Fabrication Field ( especially as a Inspector ) for 8Yrs then it will be very good to improve your career to next level, Since your experience will be counted 8+Years in inspection,But if u worked as a  site engineer / construction or Other than inspection field, then your experience is counted as 0+years,Since i am also in inspection field right from the beginning of my career.

In some interview they are asking me "what is your experience after you have done your certification". Hope you understand what i mean..

[MW:23192] RE: 23191] Corrosion Allowance for equipment

Materials are selected for process equipment based on the specific needs and service requirements of the item of equipment concerned, and the need for them to operable for that service. It is not just a question of applying a corrosion allowance. For example you may need to apply clad or corrosion resistant materials in that item of equipment. It sounds as if you may be writing a scope of work and you want to set a minimum standard for the work. In that case you could refer to an internationally recognised document/guide which lays down the basis for material selection for your industry and is used in your region of the world.

Dear experts

Good day!!

In all corrosion prediction models for process units in oil and gas the prediction model calculate the corrosion rate for piping system and whereas the process condition in equipment such as the vessels, towers and exchangers is totally different with piping system the evaluation model is not applicable to predict the corrosion rate and calculate the corrosion allowance. So I want to know this phrase is correct or not;

"The corrosion allowance for equipment is at least equal to the worst corrosion allowance of pipes which connected to equipment".

If yes is there any specific code to verify the above phrase?

Thanks

Re: [MW:23187] PQT for A333 Gr.6 pipe

Hi,

What you have mentioned is one of the option. or you can directly weld pipe to flange and carryout the procedure qualification for which you may have to procure additional flanges.

Subject: [MW:23181] PQT for A333 Gr.6 pipe

R.K.Samanta

Re: [MW:23186] How to qualify 1.5 mm thk to 60 mm thk in one wps

In that case first  PQR on 10mm plate without PWHT which will qualify from 1.5 mm to 20mm .

Second PQR on say 30mm with PWHT which will qualify from above 20 mm to 60 mm considering PWHT requirements for CS as per B 31.3.

And in WPS , in QW 407 section  need to mention that PWHT is applicable for only above 20mm.

Reference QW 200 .2  section f

Re: [MW:23185] PQT for A333 Gr.6 pipe

There is no reason for 2 pqrs. If the design and construction code does not have any impact test requirements you can do your pqr using only pno1/gropu no 1 material. Pqrs are usually done with plates since in Asme code diameter is neither essential nor supplementary essential variable

As you said, ASME code  Sec VIII Div 1 it´s applicable to design heat exchangers, but from the point of view as a pressure vessel, that means the capacity of the equipment to contain the work fluid at operating condition of design (pressure, temperature, metal thickness, material and weld efficiency)

By the other hand, you have another factors to consider in the design as: number of tubes, diameter of tubes, longitudes, diameter, material of tubes. As a guide to define this parameters, there is the TEMA (Tubural Exchanger Manufacturers Association, Inc.) standards whose can be very useful.

Please visit http://www.tema.org/index.html to consult about software and codes

This is regarding my query of applicability/restrictions of codes or standards on plate heat exchanger.

Which code/standard is applicable on plate heat exchangers for pressure/size/volume?

Is it ASME SEC VIII DIV 1 ? If yes, Any reference?

Thank you.
