Re: [MW:17397] E 7018 used instead of E7018-1

ASME IX 20012, QW 253, specifies the only essential variable in terms of filler metals as F& A numbers
& the diameters, the classification is regarded as non-essential variable, Please check your WPS and determine what electrodes was specified, and then contact the electrodes manufacturer and get support whether use of E7018 instead of E-7018-1 is acceptable and will not affect the welded joint's integrity.

Very Best Regards

what is the MDMT? there is no NDT. may be you can cut few welds to do CVN impact @ MDMT and convince your client.
or run a test coupon with E7018 and do impact testing at MDMT.

Dear Experts,

Our welders are used E7018 instead of 7018-1 for A333 Gr-6.
Now client is asking to cut the joints.
Moreover they are asking to prove the remaining joints whether they are welded with 7018-1 or not.
Can anybody suggest a suitable method such as any NDT to prove that ?
So please send your valuable suggestion with reference to code.

Thanks & regards,

Binu.
