RE: [MW:10676] Titanium to carbon steel welding

Titanium and steel form brittle intermetallics and can not be joined by standard fusion welding processes. The only welding process I am aware of for joining steel and titanium is explosion cladding.

You have to bearin mind the cost of Ti which is very very costly

Dear  Schreedhar/ Rizal/ Shaunak Upadhyay / Prakash Hegde,

Thanks for your valuable suggestions.

The saddle length is 200mm only, and I have suggested to use Titanium for the saddle to avoid dissimilar welding.

I think this will be the better decision to avoid carbonsteel to titanium welding problem.

Thanks and Regards,

Vijay

Dear Vijay

Ti To  Cs welding is not compatable

Generally  Ti lining (sheet ) is being screwed with CS, You  can refer AWS welding Hand book Vol 4 for the joint configuration Which will  clear your doubts

Dear Friends,

There is a requirement mentioned in our client spec about Titanium to Carbon steel welding(Attached picture have more details).

I searched for literatures on this and I found that by normal fusion welding process is not recommended.

1. Is there any way, welding can be done between Titanium and carbon steel?

2. If YES or NO(on both case), please send a evidence document to confirm(like ASME,ASTM).

This is very urgent requirement.

Thanks in advance

Regards,

Vijay
